In South Australia, spring has arrived, bringing with it a new season of state-grown produce.
"Citrus season is wrapping up – the last varieties of mandarins have been picked and we have enjoyed an abundant season that got us through the winter months," commented Penny Reidy, Marketing, BD & Communications Manager at South Australian Produce Market. " The Summerina mandarin variety is still on shelves, the sweet, seedless variety only has a short season but is tasting well and being well received by consumers."

Strawberries have had their first pick – the first pick of South Australian-grown strawberries hit the market this week. The season will start slowly and should be in full supply by mid-November/Early December.
"The cherry blossoms are flowering – the Adelaide Hills cherry farms are filled with white flowers and we expect the first cherries from the Riverland to be arriving early November – in plenty of time for our annual Cherry Auction scheduled for 26 November, which will this year be supporting Variety, the children's charity.
"The Adelaide Hills are also still delivering quality Rhubarb. The fruit this season has been consistent and in steady supply. Whilst not the most popular fruit for consumers, there has been good demand, particularly as the weather in SA has continued to provide some cool rainy days – rhubarb is perfect for comfort desserts.
"The quintessential asparagus has been in supply in South Australia since mid-August, but supplies are steady, and locally grown asparagus is tasting good as consumers continue to add this staple to their Spring menus.
"On October 15, we will celebrate National Mushroom Day. South Australia grows large volumes of quality mushrooms all year round – the National Day provides an opportunity to shine a spotlight on this Meat for Vegetarians. Large flat mushrooms are perfect for warmer BBQ menus, and chopped mushrooms added to spaghetti bolognese is always a great way to add more vegetables into our kids' meals."
