The bulk of Senegal's mango harvest arrives on the market

The bulk of Senegalese mango production, namely that from the Niayes region, is arriving on the international market. The season is shaping up to be significantly better than last year's, according to several growers, including Mohamed Mbengue from UnionAgri des Niayes.

Mbenue says, "We will be sending our first shipment of the season to the Netherlands in a few days. Everything points to a successful campaign. First, weather conditions were fine and we have not experienced any delays in the launch of the campaign, unlike last year, which put us at that time in a difficult commercial position. In terms of volume and quality, the situation is also better than last season. Above all, great progress has been made this season in the control of fruit flies, and this is widespread among Senegalese growers."

"We have also obtained good sizes with an abundance of size 12 mangoes, the most popular on the market," Mbengue continues.

The first signs of strong demand are present, according to the grower. "We have already received several orders from importers in the Netherlands, and we expect sustained demand in other European markets. There are also Moroccan buyers currently coming to Senegal and sourcing mangoes. Prices remain stable this season, at the same level as last year."

"At Unionagri des Niayes, our entire production this season is destined for the European Union, and our campaign will end in late August," Mbengue concludes.
