Two 2,800 TEU high-reefer ships ordered in China

Seatrade, a global company in specialised refrigerated shipping and logistics, has confirmed an order for two new 2,800 TEU high-reefer container vessels at Huanghai Shipyard in Shandong Province, China. The vessels, scheduled for delivery beginning in 2027, are the largest container ships ordered by the company to date and mark a new phase in its fleet development strategy.

Each ship will be equipped with over 1,000 reefer plugs, enabling the transport of large volumes of temperature-sensitive cargo. The vessels are intended to support Seatrade's existing operational model focused on direct, time-sensitive service routes.

These two vessels will be added to the company's current series of ten 1,800 TEU vessels built at the same shipyard. In addition to the confirmed orders, Seatrade has secured options for six more ships of the same class, with future decisions dependent on customer demand and broader market conditions.

The order is part of Seatrade's broader efforts to expand its capacity in the high-reefer segment through a combination of newbuilds, acquisitions of modern secondhand vessels, and potential strategic partnerships with other operators and customer groups.

The company stated that these developments are aimed at improving delivery times, reducing indirect costs, and increasing service flexibility within its core perishable goods logistics operations.
