Fruit, vegetable exporters disappointed at lack of support in federal budget

The All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association has criticized the newly announced federal budget for failing to support the agriculture sector, despite its crucial role in the national economy.

Waheed Ahmed, the association's Patron-in-Chief, expressed disappointment over the absence of relief measures for a sector facing rising input costs, water scarcity, inadequate R&D, and poor storage infrastructure. He noted that the budget ignored key needs such as support for climate-resilient crops, orchard development, and modern pack houses.

Waheed also highlighted the lack of incentives for boosting horticulture exports, warning that this neglect could worsen food insecurity and limit foreign exchange earnings. Instead of promoting exports, he said, the government has eased duties on imported materials—an approach that may raise the import bill at a time when strengthening exports is essential.
