"Making the world a little bit better" is what has been driving Claus Schlosser for 25 years now. Since 2018, Schlosser has been at the helm of Stuttgart-based organic wholesaler Ecofit, whose customers include BIO-ABO boxes, delivery services, market traders, natural food stores, and farm shops offering natural foods. Catering businesses, canteens, and Waldorf schools are also increasingly being supplied with organic goods. Claus Schlosser believes that more education is needed for chefs who have not worked with organic products before. The Stuttgart Food Policy Council is already quite active in this area, says Schlosser (pictured below).
Overall, Schlosser sees a positive future for organic products, even though health food stores and market traders are currently struggling. However, the increase in organic production tends to benefit traditional discounters because consumers have less money to spend. There is considerable uncertainty and criticism among consumers, particularly regarding products from non-German countries: "Are these really organic products?" Consistent education and comprehensive sampling of products from Italy, Spain, and Greece are necessary to gain consumer trust. It is important to examine the extent to which known problems, such as poor working conditions and pay, or ecological concerns regarding the wasteful consumption of water resources in Spain, are accurate or even unacceptable.
