The mango season has already ended in many producing areas, but Brazil's harvest is still in full swing with the Palmer and Tommy Atkins varieties. These two varieties allow Brazil to practically have continuous production throughout the year, unlike the Kent and Keitt varieties, which have more limited windows, stated João Souza and Aléxia Souza, foreign trade representatives of the Grand Valle company.
"We continue harvesting, making weekly shipments, and focusing on markets like Argentina, which has gained prominence this season," they stated. Many Brazilian growers who previously did not export to Argentina are now shipping grapes and mangoes to that market, which opens up new commercial opportunities.
"In addition, we've started air exports to South Korea and will start shipments to South Africa in the coming weeks. Volumes are small, ranging from two to three pallets per week, but these are strategic markets to diversify destinations and maintain an international presence. South Africa used to import by ship, but the current volumes only justify air freight. These imports are complementary to their local production," they stated.
Exports to Europe remain stable. They are mainly sent by air, and prices are stable. "We continue to export the Palmer variety by air, mainly to Portugal, Spain, and, to a lesser extent, Canada. In terms of sea freight, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany are currently the main destinations."
The supply of Palmer remains stable, but Tommy Atkins has been scarce in recent weeks, which has driven up the price on the domestic market. "Recently, this variety was being sold for less than a dollar. Now, the supply is limited. However, we expect a recovery in volume in June or July," they stated.
"Grand Valle operates around 900 hectares. 800 are owned and cultivated by the company, the remaining 100 by associated producers. This allows the company to guarantee a constant supply for most of the year," they stressed.
