Greater Shepparton to promote exports at Asia trade event

Greater Shepparton City Council, Australia, will attend Asia Fruit Logistica 2025 in Hong Kong, following approval at the April Council Meeting. This decision continues the region's presence on the international horticultural stage, after participating in the 2024 event.

Asia Fruit Logistica is a key trade expo in the Asia-Pacific for fresh produce. It offers a platform for Greater Shepparton to showcase its produce, connect with global markets, and promote itself as the 'Fruit Capital of Australia'.

In 2024, Council collaborated with Fruit Growers Victoria (FGV) to host a trade stand, including the Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, a Council officer, and 21 local growers and industry leaders. Mayor Shane Sali stated that returning in 2025 highlights the Council's support for this economic sector.

"The value of our agricultural output exceeds $729 million annually, and fruit production alone represents nearly half of that," said Cr Sali. He emphasized the importance of international market connections and trade partnerships across Asia.

The 2024 event resulted in increased export opportunities and stronger partnerships with trade bodies. Greater Shepparton was recognized by Global Victoria and the Victorian Government Trade and Investment Department. A subsequent trade mission in February 2025 included importers from 10 Asian countries visiting local farms.

Cr Sali noted, "With new export protocols emerging, particularly in Vietnam for produce like plums, the 2025 expo is set to be another valuable opportunity for Greater Shepparton growers."

The Council delegation for 2025 will include the Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, a Council officer, and support from FGV and local growers, aligning with the region's goals to be a leading exporter.
