Partnership expands recyclable packaging in UK food sector

Xact Prepack, a UK-based supplier of packaging solutions for the food industry, has announced a new partnership with Frutmac, an Italian manufacturer specialising in recyclable cardboard packaging and automated machinery. The collaboration aims to expand the availability of environmentally sustainable packaging options within the UK market.

Through this agreement, Xact Prepack will distribute Frutmac's range of cardboard trays and punnets to serve the UK's fresh produce and broader food sectors. The packaging is made from materials such as corrugated board and grass paper, and can be customised with features including PET coatings, lids, and branding through bespoke printing. The packaging is also compatible with stretch and flowpack films, offering flexibility for different product types.

In addition to the packaging itself, UK businesses will gain access to Frutmac's automated machinery, which supports the full packaging process, from filling to final presentation. The integration of recyclable materials with automation is intended to support the industry's transition towards more sustainable operations.

Xact Prepack's Director, Paul Bennion, noted that the agreement responds to growing demand in the UK for recyclable and plastic-free alternatives in food packaging. He said the collaboration would allow Xact to expand its offering in line with current environmental regulations and customer expectations.

Frutmac's Head of Sales, Matthias Alber, described the partnership as a way to bring their sustainable packaging systems to the UK, highlighting the relevance of adaptable and automated solutions for a wide range of food products.

This development reflects an industry-wide shift toward reducing plastic use and improving the environmental impact of packaging in the food supply chain.
