The Australian almond crop estimate for the 2025 season is 155,531 tons (kernel weight equivalent), which is a similar intake to last year. The Almond Board of Australia's annual crop estimate aggregates grower forecasts from across the industry.
ABA Chief Executive Officer Tim Jackson said this figure is down five per cent on the pre-season estimate from last year, which was 164,700 tons. "We had some nasty frosts in various regions in September after bloom and we are also coming off the back of a significant jump in yield after a fairly poor crop in 2023," he said
20,000 hectares of new plantings were established in 2017, 2018, and 2019, which will help boost the national crop this year. "Prices are probably the best they've been for five years, so we look forward to a great 2025," Mr Jackson said.
Harvest is underway in all of the major growing regions. "Aside from a couple of storms over the weekend it has been a dry start, with some growers getting started two weeks earlier than usual," Mr Jackson said.
Dry harvest conditions will enable high-quality shells to be produced this year. Growers are also forecasting larger-sized kernels.
