At an average of €1.64 per kilo, the European tomato price remained only slightly above the five-year average of €1.62 per kilo. Tomato prices declined almost everywhere in December, with a few exceptions. In the Netherlands, the average price for cherry tomatoes and loose, round tomatoes last month exceeded the five-year average. Cherry tomatoes were priced 10% higher, while loose, round tomatoes fetched 20% more.
Compared to December 2023, all segments recorded losses in all countries included in the EU tomato dashboard. Prices in December 2024 remained between 13% and 45% lower.
Dutch cherry tomatoes averaged €3.10 per kilo in December, while Spanish cherry tomatoes were priced at €1.63 per kilo. Italian cherry tomatoes, also included in the EU tomato dashboard, fetched €2.80 per kilo.
Vine tomatoes were by far the most expensive in France in December, with an average price of €2.63 per kilo, according to EU statisticians. In the Netherlands, the average price paid was €1.29 per kilo.
