At the close of December 2024, Tunisia observed a notable uptick in its date exports to Morocco, which comprised 19.7% of its total export market, surpassing Italy at 7.5% and Turkey at 6.8%. This surge is attributed to the robust demand from Morocco, catalyzing an 11.4% increase in the value of Tunisian date exports, culminating at 342.2 million dinars (107, 291, 629 US$) (MD), as reported by Moroccan media outlets.
The National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI) highlighted that this upward trajectory was mirrored by a 10.5% rise in export volumes, amounting to 51,300 tons during the initial three months of the 2024/2025 marketing year. In the preceding year, Morocco secured its position as the world's second-largest date importer, trailing behind India. Despite a boost in local production, dates remain the foremost fruit and vegetable import in Morocco, with major supplies originating from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria.
