Bangladeshi and Pakistani business communities are identifying opportunities for the import of dates, oranges, and other fruits from Pakistan to Bangladesh, aiming to satisfy the demand throughout the year and specifically during Ramadan. The potential for exporting Bangladeshi products to Pakistan was also highlighted. The call to dismantle tariff and non-tariff barriers to facilitate trade was a key discussion point during a meeting in Dhaka's Gulshan area, involving representatives from the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and a Pakistani business delegation.
The session, chaired by FBCCI's Md Hafizur Rahman, underscored the significant demand for dates in Bangladesh during Ramadan, alongside the year-round demand for various fruits. Rahman pointed out Pakistan as a viable source for these commodities. He advocated for joint efforts and private-sector cooperation to enhance bilateral trade, including finalizing a trade agreement between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The dialogue also touched upon the necessity of improving logistics, supply chain management, cold storage, packaging, and transportation to bolster trade activities. Attendees included Zain Aziz, trade and investment attaché of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, and Md Zafar Iqbal from FBCCI, among others from both trade delegations and the Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importers Association.
