Pnina Oren-Shnidor, Director of Israel's National Food Service, announced that restrictions on importing fruits and vegetables from Jordan have been lifted. This decision comes after new pre-import inspections were introduced to ensure the safety of produce entering Israel.
The decision followed a meeting between Israeli and Jordanian officials and was reinforced by a letter from Jordan's Minister of Agriculture about water quality for irrigation.
The Jordanian Minister of Agriculture confirmed that the Jordan Valley, irrigated by the Yarmouk River, is not used for growing vegetables this season; instead, crops come from mountain areas using groundwater. Israel's Ministry of Health found no evidence of water contamination, including cholera, and approved importing fruits and vegetables from Jordan, with regular checks for contaminants and pesticide residues.
