The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified a vegetable recall as a Class I risk. RS Hanline and Company, Inc., initiated a recall of jalapeño, green bean, and green pepper products in late July due to potential Listeria contamination. The affected products were distributed across nine states, including Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. A Class I risk classification is issued by the FDA when there is a reasonable probability that using or being exposed to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
The recall includes several products under the Freshire Farms brand, a trademark of Aldi. The products in question include jalapeños in eight-ounce plastic bags, green beans in one-pound plastic bags, and green peppers in plastic bags containing three peppers, among others. Additional products recalled are jalapeño peppers in five-pound diced bags, poblano peppers in various cuts, and whole green peppers in five-, 10-, and 20-pound cartons.
