The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) has implemented a pre-registration policy as of 23 May, necessitating grape producers and exporters to adhere to specific safety standards for exporting grapes to Taiwan. This initiative aims to address the Taiwanese government's enhanced safety inspections on imported fresh fruits during customs clearance and to maintain the upward movement of Korean grape exports. The policy mandates grape producers and exporters to obtain identification numbers (ID) ensuring a systematic management of grape safety from production to export phases.
Those looking to export grapes to Taiwan must undergo a series of steps starting with mandatory education on the safe usage of agricultural chemicals by the Rural Development Administration, followed by ID registration with Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp., submission of agricultural chemical residue analysis to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, and finally, acquisition of a phytosanitary certificate.
Director-General YANG Joo-pil of MAFRA's Food Industry Policy Bureau commented: "The Pre-registration Policy for Grape Exports to Taiwan is expected to increase the export competitiveness of Korean-grown grapes. We will carry out promotional activities about the safety and quality of Korean grapes, and this way, continue expanding their exports."
