For 2023, banana production was estimated at 888.400 tons. North and South are the main producing regions of the State of Minas Gerais. On September 22nd, World Banana Day was celebrated. The fruit, which is one of the most consumed in Brazil , has great economic and social importance, since the production chain generates jobs, income and development in the countryside. With an estimated production for 2023 at 888.400 tons, Minas Gerais occupies third place among the largest banana producing states.
According to data from the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), in 2023, banana production tends to increase by 5.6% compared to 2022, when production reached 841.6 thousand tons. Minas Gerais produces 12.6% of the national volume of bananas. In the country, the estimated volume is 7 million tons.
