US: H-E-B opens its biggest e-commerce fulfillment center ever
H-E-B announced the opening of its newest and largest e-commerce fulfillment center, located about 30 miles west of Houston in Katy, Texas. The 100,000-square-foot fulfillment center is about twice the size of similar facilities and will satisfy curbside and home delivery orders across the Houston area, the grocer said.

Portugal to extend zero VAT rate on basic food until the end of 2023
The Portuguese government will extend the zero rate of value-added tax (VAT) on basic food staples by two months to the end of 2023 to help families deal with persistent inflation, Prime Minister Antonio Costa said. The government slashed the VAT rate to 0% in April from 6% on a list of 46 basic foods, including milk, bread, rice, tomatoes, and some meat and fish.
Over 32% of people in France can't afford 3 meals per day: Study
Over a third of people living in France cannot afford three meals a day and are forced to cut back on necessities like food and medical expenses, according to a new survey. The Ipsos survey carried out on behalf of the aid organization Secours Populaire (People's Relief) said that 32% of people are not always able to afford enough food, or healthy food, to make three meals a day. Just under half, 43%, say they can no longer afford to eat fruit and vegetables every day.

Organized by the community group Free-Go, the program is helping to successfully divert perfectly edible food waste away from landfills while also feeding the hungry.
