Supplies of cauliflower look to be steady going into the summer months. “The supply compared to last year is comparable. We have recovered nicely from the flooding that plagued our region over the winter months, and products are looking great and keeping up with forecast volumes,” says Lori Bigras, communications manager for Ocean Mist Farms.
The current supply of cauliflower is comparable to last year at this time.
This is thanks to the planning and forecasting of weather patterns for all of the company’s growing regions says cauliflower commodity manager Wyatt Maker. “So we have a steady supply of cauliflower to ensure we meet demand despite the cool temperatures we’ve experienced in the Salinas Valley and Castroville growing regions over the past week,” says Maker.
Helping cauliflower demand
At the same time, demand for the vegetable is steady and consistent with rare dips in demand throughout the year. “The fluid and continual communications we have with our customers help them be aware of what’s on the horizon as well so they can adjust accordingly at their end,” adds Maker. To help with demand, the company also offers value-added cauliflower items including Cauliflower Rice and Cauliflower Florets packages to help consumers who are time-starved access the vegetable via a convenient option.
“Advanced ad pricing and promotions have helped us manage the flow of supply and demand,” said Maker.
