SG Alimentación–Southgreen (SGA) has been renamed to SGA Group

"For us, the future has already started"

SG Alimentación-Southgreen (SGA) will be renamed to SGA Group, thereby integrating the three main family-owned production companies that supply it under the same commercial structure.

The project has been launched with more than 600 hectares devoted to citrus, stone fruit and berry production, around 30,000 tons marketed, 3 state-of-the-art handling centers, 2 distribution centers covering the entire Iberian Peninsula and more than 100 million Euro of joint turnover.

The company was founded in Seville after more than 10 years of experience in large-scale European distribution, mainly with the idea of implementing the quality, varietal innovation and logistics standards of other countries in the Peninsula. It has its own offices and two distribution centers in Seville and Barcelona, and supplies its domestic customers while also exporting almost 30% of its volume to its international customers, the majority of which are in Germany.

"After the first ten years, we have started with the second cycle of the project, which involves the integration of our main producers, with whom we have been working side by side all this time, under a single commercial structure. The idea is to adapt to the new quality and sustainability standards and provide a year-round service," says Gonzalo Liñán, general manager of SGA Group.

"The three main product lines, apart from the more than 120 conventional organic products that we will continue to work with, are citrus, stone fruit and berries. With this first integration, we are bringing together the extensive experience of three 100% family-owned production companies," says Gonzalo Liñán.

The citrus-producing company integrated in this project is Mariano Sáez MK, which produces oranges, clementines and lemons. "We are talking about a leader in the sector, with facilities located in the municipality of Torregüera, in Murcia. In 2018, it was the first company to be able to supply Spanish lemons all year round," he says.

The Extremadura-based cooperative Explum SCA, with facilities in Valdelacalzada, Badajoz, is the one in charge of the stone fruit, supplying peaches, nectarines and especially plums to the domestic market, as well as to Europe, Canada, Central and South America, India, or the Middle and Far East, among other destinations.

Lastly, Tierras del Condado SL will supply berries. "With facilities in El Rocio, Huelva, and with several farms in the province, they are providing the best varieties of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Its founder has extensive experience, and now the second generation is also pushing the envelope. They have plenty of experience in the English and Nordic markets, and they are now also focusing on the rest of continental Europe, and especially in Spain," says Gonzalo Liñán.

"SGA Group is the next step of a 100% family-owned common project, whose goal is to offer the best service to its customers, as well as pursue varietal innovation, sustainability and quality all year round. New and interesting projects are to come in the very short term, so, for us, the future has already started," concludes its general manager.
