After the successful anniversary year, 2022, the wholesale market Vienna will implement some renovation works in 2023. The focus will be on further sustainability measures: the GMW lighting system will be converted to LED. All street lighting will be controlled by brightness sensors in the future. Another advantage is that the collector aisle lighting, which is prone to faults, can be controlled and monitored digitally. Energy savings are also associated with the luminaire replacement, an important environmental aspect, according to the latest newsletter.
There will also be a complete overhaul of the concrete surface with new power connections in the open space next to/behind f-one. A greening concept is being developed: this mainly concerns the design in front of the administration building, Laxenburger Straße 367. Energy communities are to be established for a GMW photovoltaic plant. In the first step, a plant is to be erected on the administration building, followed by one on the roofs of the open space 2. This is intended to generate solar power on site, which will enable participating tenants to benefit from lower grid costs.

Obsthaus Haller plans sustainable fresh produce logistics center
Also on the part of the market companies there are some building activities in the form of additions/conversions this year. On the area A30 a pick-up market for oriental specialties called Orient is to be built. The start-up is planned for September 2023.
Close to the main facility C10 / Stand 112-115, Obsthaus Haller is planning a new fresh produce logistics center with an area of approx. 2,000 m2. Commissioning is planned towards the end of the year.
The focus of this new building project is also on sustainability: the building is to be equipped with a photovoltaic system, an electric vehicle fleet, heat recovery, full insulation, renewable energy through organic waste processing and digitalization. With the construction of the new facilities, Obsthaus Haller intends to focus on the nationwide delivery of fresh produce in the future and increase the number of employees from 30 to approximately 50.
Finally, the Macro Group's facilities at the wholesale market site are being expanded. The new expansion building, which will include a halal meat cutting operation, is expected to be operational in July 2023.
