"It remains a difficult tomato year," sighs the Spanish company Horticola Guadalfeo's Ellen van Kester. "After a major shortage, numbers seemed to return to normal, both price and volume-wise. But all cherry tomato varieties are becoming pricier again, and not much is available either."
"The weather's good with sunny, 20°C days. So, it's not about that, but rather that the plants suffered from the last few months' fluctuating temperatures," Ellen says. "There are also very few specialties, like Marazul, Cherokee, and Rosa, available."
"We've started with Chinese cabbage and, in the Netherlands, have worked with Hars&Hagebauer and Zoutewelle. That market's quite good, with slightly more availability at the moment, " Ellen concludes.
