As in previous weeks, domestic Elstar, Jonagold, Royal Gala and Braeburn from the domestic CA warehouses dominated the market. Boskoop and Pinova followed in terms of importance, while Wellant and other club varieties reduced their presence somewhat. Italy, according to BLE, primarily sent over Royal Gala, Pink Lady and Golden Delicious. France participated with Jazz and Pink Lady. Overall, business was mostly good due to a continuously good market supply. With regard to prices, hardly any changes were discernible, with a tendency for the rates of domestic lots in particular to become more firm.
Domestic producers hope to raise their prices to a level where costs incurred are covered more. The organic share - with Braeburn, Elstar, Gala, Jonagold and Topaz - increased in Frankfurt. In the northern German region, the first Tenroy/Royal Gala apples are said to have already arrived from overseas.
Bananas
Business was stable in many places despite seasonally limited uptake. Although demand for was met most brands, prices nevertheless shifted slightly upwards in unison. In Frankfurt, few third brands arrived apart from the omnipresent Dole and Del Monte.
Cucumbers
A negative price consolidation, set in recent weeks across the entire range, continued this week. Sometimes it was quite significant. Most affected were smaller products; the 300/350g and 350/400g weight classes from Belgium and the Netherlands.
Tomatoes
There were continued wide ranges from various source countries, which again led to a price relaxation on the markets. Spain, Turkey, Italy and Morocco played the main role. However, imports from Morocco and Turkey gradually slowed down. On the other hand, the presence of greenhouse goods from the Benelux countries increased locally.
Sweet peppers
Spanish deliveries increased again this week. Shipments from Turkey and Benelux countries completed the scene. The latter gradually increased their market share across all color groups and these had good coloration and organoleptics.
Potatoes
The supply of domestic ware remained dominant, despite stronger arrivals of early variety imports. Demand was slow in many places, but locally sufficient for satisfactory sales figures. Accordingly, prices remained mostly stable, at their previous levels. Locally, some varieties were unable to maintain their prices. In Munich, for example, the main Italian varieties - Annabelle and Spunta – sold for slightly less.
