Starberry MD2 promotion in the Spanish and European markets

A shaker to reduce blueberry harvesting costs

Campagnola Iberica, with headquarters in Barcelona and production at Campagnola s.r.l. in Italy, is a leader in the manufacture of agricultural equipment, such as electric and pneumatic pruning shears, olive-tree harvesters, chain pruners and more.

For blueberries, it has created  Starberry MD2, a shaker that facilitates the manual harvesting of blueberries, reducing harvesting costs and labour hours by more than 50% at a time when finding labour is increasingly difficult, labour costs are very high and blueberry prices are falling.

Campagnola's solution is therefore instrumental in maintaining the profit margins necessary for a farm to succeed.

For the Spanish market, Campagnola is enlisting the expertise of Sergio Panini, a consultant specialising in blueberries, who is proposing to the most prestigious companies in the sector to start harvesting with Starberry MD2 and save labour hours already this season.

Sergio Panini reports: "The results are indeed extraordinary, especially at a time when it is imperative to take action to reduce blueberry production costs. I think we can average 10-12 kg up to peaks of 25 kg of harvest per hour, but it depends on the variety and stage of ripeness. We are currently focused on sales in the Spanish market, which has just started the season. For Italy, in addition to participating in the International Blueberry days at Macfrut 2023 from 3 to 5 May, which we are sponsors of, we have set up a very interesting promotion, already active in Spain, which allows growers to try Starberry MD2 with in-field assistance and right of return if not satisfied.

Marco Antolini, agronomist and blueberry farmer, adds information about trials in Italy: 'Last summer I had Starberry MD2 tested by some farmers in the Veneto region and the results were excellent. For example, at the Benini Mattia farm in Arcole (VR) with the Cargo variety, using the Campagnola electric shaker, 25 kg/hour was harvested compared to the 5 kg usually harvested manually. The result was surprising.

Sergio Panini concludes: 'I will gradually contact blueberry growers around the world, to bring innovation in the field of harvesting. Next stops are Portugal, Romania, Poland, UK, Italy, France, Holland and Germany; at the end of the summer we will move on to South America, South Africa, USA and Canada."
