Untimely rains have severely affected the mango farmers in NTR, Krishna and Eluru districts. Crop in around 20,000 hectares got damaged in the last five days. Parts of Nuzividu, Chatrai, Agiripalli, and Edara regions received severe thunderstorms. Mango flowers and fruits fell from the trees due to heavy winds. Many farmers have noticed sooty mold infection in crops after the rains. A few farmers have started early harvest for fear of huge losses due to viral infections. Farmers are rushing to nearby markets to sell the damaged crop.
Nunna mango market, which is called Asia's largest mango market, started receiving mangoes from farmers. Usually, mango trade starts in the first week of April every year. But the weather forced farmers to sell their crop a little early this season. Around 60 tons of mangoes arrived at the market on Sunday and Monday. Traders from Delhi came to procure fruits at cheaper prices.
