Amazon raises hourly pay for UK workers by 50 pence; union mulls more strikes

The Warehouse Group chief executive Nick Grayston says the Government’s move to help free up wholesale grocery supply has done nothing to enable competition. The operator of The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming and TheMarket.co.nz last year began selling groceries in its Warehouse stores. It followed with the introduction of fresh fruit and vegetables in six stores in February. Retail giant The Warehouse Group has taken a financial hit, with its earnings down by 60.9% in its first half of the trading year.

The main objective of the Lidl supermarket chain in Latvia at the moment is expansion, and that the company currently is in the intensive investment phase, Maciej Urbanski, the head of Lidl Latvija, told LETA in an interview. Urbanski did not comment on the results of the last financial year of Lidl Latvija, which lasted from March 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023, before they are made public, but, according to him, Lidl Latvija also operated with losses in the previous financial year, focusing on investments in the opening of new stores.

Portugal: Inflation boosts Jeronimo Martins' Q4 profit but dents margins
Portugal's second-largest retailer Jeronimo Martins posted a 23% jump in fourth-quarter net profit as soaring inflation boosted sales - especially in Poland, its key market - but also dented its margins. The company, which netted 171mln euros ($185.65mln) from October to December, warned that food inflation remained high and only showed early signs of abating. At home, supermarket chain Pingo Doce posted a 13.7% rise in sales to 1.2bln euros, while in Colombia, its Ara stores booked 477mln euros in sales, up 38.5% from a year earlier.

City administrators aim to establish an amended zoning plan that regulates the establishment of the distribution centers used by these services, known as dark stores.
