Spinach field days in Murcia attract European visitors

There was a lot to explore on the Spinach Field Days of 2023 in Murcia, Spain. New material and innovations that address new market demands, were waiting to be discovered. From 14-16 of February Tozer Iberica and Pop Vriend Seeds specialists welcomed growers from all over Europe in the demo fields.

Visitors from Spain supplemented by customers from Scandinavia, UK, France and the Netherlands highlighted the international touch of the event – together providing high leaf quality spinach to European supermarkets year-round.

Speaking new spinach varieties
Find the flags on the field and check the most promising varieties that Pop Vriend Seeds has to offer. For the early slot (winter) you can find two very fast varieties that match the needs of the European market.

These smooth leaf types with good texture, thick and uniformity belong to the winners Quartz and PV-1723. From the semi-fast varieties, PV-1716 is showing outstanding leaf quality. All three hybrids differentiate in terms of color, to suit specific market needs. The growers have a big range to choose from – all coming with rock solid resistance against downy mildew.

Boost your germination 
The field days give also stage to one of the newest innovations of Pop Vriend Seeds, KWS INITIO. It’s the new standard seed enhancement of Pop Vriend Seeds for spinach, which is now being discovered and experienced on benefits by spinach growers. It’s is a nutrient-rich coating that gives a strong and uniform start to the seeds, enabling the crop to reach its full growth and yield potential. “In this case it’s easy to see with our bare eyes. Over all when we look at spinach, we see a higher plant emergence with KWS INITIO in 75% of the trials.
