SeedsTec Italia

A cherry tomato that tastes like summer even in winter

SeedsTec Italia organised another open day in 2023, which this time focused on Livanti FT, a cherry tomato. Although it is actually a spring and summer cherry tomato, Seeds Technologies presented Livanti F1, grafted on the Selvaggio F1 rootstock, which was transplanted on 6 October, outside its ideal area of cultivation.

Ample attention for a mid-winter event that demonstrated the versatility of a cherry tomato, the Livanti F1, hitherto considered a summer crop

The numerous crowd that attended the event was able to see how the cherry tomato, known to perform well in summer, also produces excellent results in winter.

Livanti F1

"That it has been a very special autumn is no secret to anyone in the Sicilian horticultural sector," stated Emanuele Marino, R&D manager. "It has been a wet autumn with some sudden weather changes. But a key feature of Livanti F1 is its strong body. It is its trademark that helps it grow ahead in all periods and areas in which it is planted. It is now more important than ever to have a flexible variety that lends itself to many kinds of transplants."

"Italian and foreign markets demand quality and good-looking products. Both the eye and the taste buds want to be pampered," said Daniele Reina, manager for Sicilia. "Under these conditions, we can see how a summer cherry tomato is the perfect candidate to meet the needs of the market, with excellent tolerance to both cracking and plant diseases typical in winter. We are able to always deliver to consumers a bright red tomato with a green stem, which is synonymous with flavor and freshness. We can do that from the beginning to the end of the growing cycle."

"Working in a specific high-quality context requires premium plants and products," said Michele Denaro, cultivation manager of growers' association OP Albani. "The Seeds Tec team allowed me to try this variety a year ago, and they gave me the right advice for growing in the winter period. The results are impressive! Seeds Tec Italia's offer is very interesting and stands out for the quality of its products."
