Brocomole the only Spanish product nominated for the 2023 Fruit Logistica Innovation Award

Brocomole, a vegetable dip that is 97% made out of fresh broccoli and avocado, has been the only Spanish product selected and nominated by an independent jury as one of the ten best innovations to be exhibited on February 8 and 9 in Berlin within the framework of the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA). The professional visitors who attend the fair will vote to choose one winning proposal.

This product is incorporated into the line of specialties produced by Janus Fruit, and marketed by Anecoop in Europe through its network of subsidiaries under Bouquet's ¿Y si? brand in the domestic market, Easy by Bouquet in the international market, as well as under other distributor brands. The line includes avocado hummus, traditional and spicy guacamole, organic guacamole, chickpea hummus, and Mexican sauce.

Brocomole has been submitted to a consumer panel coordinated by the AINIA technological institute with excellent results in the appearance, color, aroma, flavor, and consistency parameters. 72% of the panelists said they would repeat the purchase and 78% stressed that they would eat more broccoli thanks to this novel format.

According to Anecoop, this is a new way of consuming broccoli, which allows them to take advantage of its partners' broccoli that, despite maintaining all of its organoleptic qualities, can't be marketed fresh because of its appearance.

Brocomole's main characteristic is that it combines the virtues of its two main fresh ingredients: broccoli and avocado, which account for 97% of the product (54% and 43%, respectively). The remaining 3% are flavoring ingredients (salt, onion, coriander, garlic, and cumin) and the products necessary so that it can be refrigerated adequately.

Brocomole has 37% more protein, 31% fewer calories, 34% less fat, and 30% less sugar than traditional guacamole. It is a gluten-free and lactose-free product, a source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium.

“We are very excited to have been selected by a specialized jury as one of the 10 innovations candidates for the award, and the only Spanish innovation selected. The results of the consumer panel make us think that it can be well-accepted in the market. The panel valued its organoleptic properties and name with a 7 out of 10. It is an innovative and healthy alternative to consumption and a new opportunity to market the product of our agricultural partners,” stated the president of Anecoop, Alejandro Monzon.

Anecoop is the leading Spanish fruit and vegetable exporter with more than 845,000 tons sold per year. It currently brings together, coordinates, and markets the production of 73 cooperatives and fruit and wine companies, representing more than 23,000 Spanish farmers.
