The Cay Holding company is one of the largest producers of TOVs in Turkey and has a market share of 70-75 percent there. Since this year, Ambrosia Frucht Ltd is now also part of the large company, marketing more than 20,000 tons of TOVs to all of Europe, focusing on Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and France, according to Managing Director Halil Sarikoc.

"The TOVs are grown in greenhouses. The produce is primarily grown in winter. We do not use fossil fuel and pay attention to sustainable production," says Sarikoc. The tomatoes are freshly packed and transported directly after harvesting. According to Sarikoc, various supermarket chains from Sweden, Germany, France and Poland have already expressed a high level of interest in the tomatoes.
"Of course, prices fluctuate according to the market. But certainly the high costs for fertilizer, fuel and for wages in Turkey are making themselves felt as well. Transportation, in particular, is quite costly." At the same time, he said, he knows that production costs in the Netherlands are significantly higher and in this respect he acknowledges a certain market advantage for Turkish tomatoes.
Talks between Sarikoc and Cay Holding took place as early as April 2021. The latter is now a shareholder in Ambrosia Frucht Ltd. Cay Holding includes a total of 16 companies, each operating under different brands.
