Last year, Enes Fruit and Vegetables cautiously began importing Turkish TOVS. Given the expected shortages in Western Europe, that volume doubled this year, with three shipments arriving in the Netherlands every week until March. The market needed quite a run-up this year, says Huseyin Culdur. "The Dutch supply continued for quite a while longer than we'd expected. But we expect plenty of demand for these Turkish vine tomatoes in the new year."

Enes's tomatoes on the vine are cultivated the Dutch way - that is to say, in high-tech greenhouses - in Turkey. "They're of superb quality, which our customers love. These are of the Marvelance variety. We sell them mainly to supermarket chains across Europe, but also on the free market. The German trade market is still our base, but those markets in other export countries, such as Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and France, are growing," Huseyin continues.
Although it offers a total assortment, Turkish imports have been a strong pillar of this, the largest Turkish fruit and vegetable trading company in the Netherlands, for years. The Turkish range includes products like eggplants, mini cucumbers, white and mini zucchinis, pomegranates, grapes, pears, quinces, and mandarins. "These are naturally popular with Turkish clients, but every year more and more European buyers also specifically ask for the Turkish products."
Along with German market vendors, Enes has served many wholesalers, greengrocers, and supermarkets in recent years. The company has been in its present location since 2015. It has a total area of almost 9,000 m2, of which 5,000 m2 is warehouse space, which houses all its products. And customers need not leave with an empty stomach, as evidenced by the sign toward the 'kebab'.
"We can end 2022 with satisfaction. The high energy prices, and all the other increased costs, affected our profit margin significantly, but we're happy with how we got through the year. This year we tackled all the lighting. Next year we hope to renovate the cold rooms. We keep investing," Huseyin concludes.
