New Zealand sweet corn hit by impact of La Nina rainfall and cold

The ongoing rainfall and cold temperature has a negative effect on the sweet corn harvest across New Zealand farms. The start of the harvest had to be delayed by at least a week due to the changing weather.

Gisborne, which is usually warm with a lot of sunshine, has experienced a wetter and colder spring. The sunshine has returned in time to start the harvest, albeit a bit later than usual.

The sweet corn will be harvested until the end of January said Gordon McPhail, general manager of LeaderBrand one of New Zealand's largest sweet corn growers.
