Egypt and the Philippines have signed a protocol allowing Egyptian citrus access to the Philippine market, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
After two years of work by the Egyptian Embassy in Manila in collaboration with the Egyptian Agriculture Export Council and the Agricultural Quarantine, the aim is to open Philippine market gradually to Egyptian agricultural crops.
Egypt is expected to export other fruit and vegetables such as potatoes and grapes to the Philippines and welcomes importing Philippine agricultural crops.
Last week, a Philippine delegation visited Egypt and signed an export protocol with the agriculture ministry, reports english.ahram.org.eg The protocol was signed after finalising the procedures that guarantee botanical health in alignment with international standards.
