China buys more Vietnamese fruit for Lunar New Year

China is buying more fruit from Vietnam to ensure enough supply in time for next year's Lunar New Year, that will be celebrated earlier than usual.

Vietnam already exported fresh produce worth $151.7 million, an increase of 44.2% until October 2022. The race is on to get enough produce as China's lockdowns have often delayed imports.

The two countries signed a protocol to speed up imports of fruit and vegetables leading to an increase in bananas and durians. A protocol on sweet potatoes is also expected to be signed soon.
