It is currently waiting for the approval of the General Administration of Customs of China.
The imported fruit quarantine inspection point at Mohan Station will be officially opened on December 3 to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the China-Laos Railway. This is definitely good news for Thai fruit farmers, as it will allow more Thai fruits to enter the Chinese market through the China-Laos-Thailand Railway.
According to the requirements of the fruit import and export agreement between China and Thailand, the fruit exported to China must be inspected by the quarantine inspection station. In the past year, although some Thai fruits and agricultural products are exported to China through the China-Laos-Thailand Railway, the route from Vientiane, Laos to Kunming is not used. Previous shipping routes were time-consuming and costly. Since the quarantine inspection point at Mohan Station has not yet opened, it is necessary to transport the fruit from Vientiane to Boten by train and then to Mohan Port by truck, and finally, enter China.
China is the main market for Thai durian exports. In 2021, Thailand exported 875,000 tons of fresh durians to China, with a total value of 109.2 billion baht. Compared with the same period last year, it has increased by 68.4%, which is a record high.
Thailand's fruit occupies first place in China's imported fruit market with a 40% market share. Chile ranks second with 15%, and Vietnam ranks third with 6%. It can be clearly seen that Thailand's fruit export market has huge potential and strong competitive advantages.
The opening of the quarantine inspection point at Mohan Station is an important milestone in the export of Thai fruits. It is an opportunity for fruit farmers and exporters to reduce transportation costs and expand the export of Thai fruits to China.
