Officials from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have dug up 86 gold bars worth TK85.5 mln (€812,000) from a banana orchard near the Jadavpur border in Maheshpur district of Jhenaidah.
According to Lt Col Shahin Azad, commanding officer of BGB-58 battalion, the gold bars, recovered on Tuesday, weighed around 11.4 kg. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the BGB conducted the drive in the area and found the gold bars wrapped in tape buried at the orchard. A gang had hidden the gold bars to smuggle them into India, said the official. No arrests have been made in connection with the recovery yet.
