Vegetable prices have come down at Koyambedu market in Chennai

The intense rains over the past few weeks in the state of Tamil Nadu have increased the vegetables production. As a result, the prices of various vegetables have come down at the popular Koyambedu market in Chennai. Point is that when compared to last year during the NE monsoon season the prices have come down by 50 percent now.

According to a wholesale trader at the Koyambedu market, normally in the NE monsoon season the vegetable prices would increase due to shortage of the supply from the neighboring states. Now the market receives 700 truckloads of vegetables, as against the normal 500 truckloads.

Every day, Chennai requires 5,000 tons to 6,000 tons of vegetables and the Koyambedu market receives an additional 1,500 tons of vegetables. As the vegetable rates went down now, there were brisk sales at the market.
