Between January and October of this year, 90.645 tons of fresh blueberries have been exported from Chile, for a value of USD FOB 360 million. Compared to the same period during 2021, the volume decreased by 6% while the value of exported fresh blueberries fell by 26,72%.
During September and October, Peru reaches its maximum production levels. Therefore, the October prices partly reflect the large supply that exists in the market given the arrival of the Peruvian blueberries harvested during September to the main markets.
Regarding the volume produced, its reduction still does not reach what was projected by the Chilean Blueberry Committee, who forecast a drop of 8% in the export of fresh blueberries.
The blueberry is the fourth most exported fresh fruit in Chile; the first place is held by the cherry. Until October, 285.000 equivalent tons have been exported for USD FOB 1500 million. Its volume increased by 7,3%, while the value of the fruits sent abroad grew by 26,3%. Chile is the leading exporter of cherries in the southern hemisphere, with a market share of 95,7%.
Cherry is followed by table grapes and apples, in second and third place respectively.
