Indian growers demand government intervention

Bangladesh increases duty on Vidarbha oranges

Orange growers and exporters demand intervention from their federal government by hiking duties on imports from Bangladesh, which has increased import duties on the citrus fruit this year. And it's not only import duty hikes, but banks in Bangladesh are also not issuing letters of credit. The farm produce is sent via LC through Indian clearing and forwarding agents (C&F) and it is channelled through their agents in Bangladesh.

Vidarbha is a leader in orange production. Over 126,000 hectares in Maharashtra are used for orange production. Of this, 78,000 hectares are in the Amravati district alone and Warud and Morshi tehsils account for 43,000 hectares.
