Ukrainian blueberries distinguished by high taste qualities

In the annual report of the International Blueberry Association (IBO) for 2022, ranking the 10 largest countries in terms of blueberry plantation area, Ukraine became 8th, ahead of large exporters like Spain and South Africa. IBO experts estimated the area planted with blueberries in Ukraine at 5,300 ha in 2021. Above Ukraine is Mexico, which had 9,100 ha. Poland, which is the 6th, has 11,000 ha planted with blueberries.

All 10 leading countries in the world in blueberry areas in 2021 increased the areas. China, Peru, and the USA were the leaders in growth rates. The area in China increased over the year by almost 9,000 ha, in Peru – by 3,200 ha, and in the USA – by 2,900 ha in just one year. Poland planted an additional 1,500 ha of blueberries in 2021, and Ukraine planted about 1,000 ha.

Despite the large areas planted with blueberries, Ukraine lags behind many other countries with milder climates in terms of yield. However, at the same time, Ukrainian blueberries are distinguished by high taste qualities due to unique soil and climatic conditions.
