British Columbia apple growers receive $2.5 million government support

Apple producers in Okanaga, British Columbia, will receive $2.5 million in government support. The funds will be applied for crop health, fruit production, apple marketing and skills training.

The B.C. government will use the funds to support tree-fruit expansion and support to about 250 producers each year. It will cover the reduction of fruit pests, a domestic and international marketing strategy and logistics.

The tree-fruit industry in B.C. has about 400 commercial producers who farm on about 6 070 hectares of apples, pears, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots and peaches.
