Yantai persimmons enter the market in big volumes

Recently, in Yantai, one of the main producing areas of persimmons, they have been the most eye-catching fruits in the market. Many local farmers sell the persimmons picked from their own trees in the market. A local farmer from Fushan District said that his two persimmon trees are more than 30 years old. They are picked after Shuangjiang, the solar term marks the transition from autumn to winter, every year. After the fruits have been stored for a period of time to remove the astringency, they will be sold in the local market, except for the ones eaten by the family in winter. The price is 6RMB/kg, and the supply exceeds the demand.

Many customers found that persimmons from other places had been sold in the market as early as September. Induced by market price factors, as when persimmons are not fully ripe, the market supply is in short supply, and the price is relatively higher. In order to grab market prices, fruit farmers pick persimmons before they are fully ripe, and merchants are also willing to buy 70% or 80% ripe persimmons for storage and transportation.

Local traditional farmers in Yantai believe that after the persimmons go through frost, other substances such as persimmon acid have been naturally eliminated, and their own nutritional components have reached the best state. That is the best moment to harvest the persimmons.
