Currently, the Chinese chestnut export season is in full swing. "In general, the export market is operating stably. Compared with the same period last year, the overall export price has increased by about 15%, and the domestic market price has dropped by about 10%." Mr. Yue Haipeng from Qinhuangdao Yanshan Chestnut Co., Ltd. shared his views with FreshPlaza.
This year, across China, extreme weather such as continuous drought and rain frequently occurred, which affected the output of various agricultural products to varying degrees, and chestnuts were also among them. "As far as I know, the production of Chinese chestnuts has been reduced by about 60% this season. This is one of the reasons for the increase in export prices. In addition, the recent export sea freight has dropped sharply from the highest level, which is beneficial to exports. Although the current sea freight is still about twice as high as two years ago." Yue said.
The chestnut products of Qinhuangdao Yanshan Chestnut Co., Ltd. are mainly soft-packed canned chestnuts, opened chestnuts and quick-frozen opened chestnuts (frozen chestnuts). Domestic sales and exports each account for about 50% of the total sales. Among them, the main exporting destinations are Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United States. As far as domestic sales are concerned, e-commerce sales account for 50%, and the company is actively connecting with major e-commerce platforms.
When talking about packaging, Yue said, "Our packaging is divided into two types, one is canned chestnut at room temperature is high-temperature sterilized, packed with nitrogen. The other is frozen food, which has bulk and quantitative packaging. The new product launched at this stage is 120 grams of quick-frozen chestnuts (frozen chestnuts), specially packaged for microwave ovens, which are very convenient for eating."
