Processed fruit and veg consumption driven by changing diets, busy lifestyles

Processed fruit and vegetables have seen an increased uptake, after the Covid-19 lockdowns, as well as people's changing diet and busy lifestyles.

The EU has become a major importer of processed fruits and vegetables. According to statistics from the Center for the Promotion of Imports EU, the block's imports of processed fruits and vegetables was 45% of worldwide imports in 2020, followed by Asia at 27% and North America with 17% of these imports.

Organic processed fruit and vegetables are also on the rise. A study found it to be healthier than conventional processed produce. It had less salt, added sugar and saturated fat.
