Carriers suspend indefinite strike on their second day of protests

The National Platform for the Defense of the Transport Sector has announced the suspension of the indefinite strike on the second day of protests. "Since the Platform made a call to strike, there's been a relentless harassment and demolition campaign by shippers, associations of the national transport committee, government unions, some media, and a specific political party to try to intentionally discredit this mobilization," the organization stated.

On Monday, the strike started with a demonstration in Madrid that gathered about 1,500 carriers, according to police calculations, and tens of thousands of protestors, according to the carriers. The Platform denounced that they were being persecuted, and harassed and that they were the victims of inconceivable coercion by different authorities. According to the organizers of the strike, their right to strike and to report the strike, which is protected by law, was not respected.

"These circumstances demonstrate the level of manipulation, lack of freedom, and destructive machinery there is towards everything that doesn't subscribe to this rotten corrupt system," the platform stressed.

Unlike the strike in March, which lasted for 20 days and set the Spanish logistics distribution chain against the ropes, the protest called by the Platform last week didn't have a big following.

The protest didn't have the support of any of the sector's main associations nor was it supported by any of the main economic sectors that feared it would affect them just as the most intense sales period of the year, which includes Black Friday and Christmas, is about to begin.
