Green Pass substantially reduces transit time of fruit from China to Vietnam

For many years, World Fresh Exports has been specializing in exporting produce from different areas of the world to Southeast Asia. To meet Asia’s growing demand for high-quality fruit, the company started their own China operations in 2020 and is working directly with growers and packers in the country. “Very evident this year is a new middle-class population in Asia who are demanding premium quality fruit,” says Ricky Chong, Director of Business Development of World Fresh Exports. “In response, we continue to increase export quality volumes out of China, add more varieties, and offer better packaging that fits retailers’ needs.”

Two-day express delivery
In an effort to continue to improve fruit quality at the retail level, World Fresh Exports is proud to share it received a Green Pass that reduces the transportation time on fruit exported from China to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam by four days. “Usually, the transit time from China to these cities is six to ten days and the Green Pass allows for 2-day express delivery by truck from China to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City,” shared Chong. “We will clear shipments ourselves and are able to deliver to our customers’ warehouses directly.”

What is a Green Pass? It is issued by the government to Chinese exporters with the goal to expedite shipments and avoid long border queues. World Fresh Exports is only the second company to receive one. “What helped in obtaining the pass is that we partnered with the largest packer of citrus and other fruits in China back in 2020.” This company is partially owned by the local Chinese government. All types of produce qualify to be shipped with the Green Pass as long as all shipments contain proper documentation as well as a phytosanitary certificate. As an additional bonus, the pass is valid indefinitely.

Apart from a shorter transit time and delivering a higher quality product at the retail level, the Green Pass also offers operational benefits for World Fresh. “It allows us to pack and ship fruit quickly, freeing up cooler capacity, and controlled atmosphere rooms. All in all, we are able to ship larger volumes of fruit.”
