Measure is for packaged products that arrive at Ceagesp

Brazil: Products must have labels from January 2, 2023

Fruits, vegetables and various packaged foods must have  labels as established by law , as of January 2, 2023. The measure will be mandatory for products sold at the São Paulo Warehouse Terminal, owned by Ceagesp (Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo), in Vila Leopoldina, in the west of São Paulo.

The mandatory labeling will be verified together with the invoices of the goods that arrive at the warehouse in the capital. “The objective of mandatory labeling, as well as that of traceability, is to ensure improvements in the food production chain and safety for consumers. In addition, the label allows identifying the supplier of the product and has the ability to bring producer and consumer closer,” says Ceagesp.

The company published, on October 17, 2022, a statement with the specifications of what will become mandatory on the labels of packaged products. “It is not Ceagesp that is creating this rule, but we are, yes, following the legislation in force”, explains Gabriel Bitencourt, head of the Section of the Hortigranjeira Quality Center, of the company.
