II class Andalusian aubergines return to the market

"This morning, the Board of Directors of Hortyfruta - Andalusia's Fruit and Vegetable Inter-branch Organization - met again to monitor the situation of the long-black eggplant market after they activated a red-alert for this market a week ago, a week in which the II categories of this vegetable were not marketed."

"After carrying out a rigorous analysis of the aubergine's market evolution, Hortyfruta has determined to deactivate the legal provision that banned the marketing of II category aubergines, as the market is evolving favorably."

"Thus, starting November 8 at 00.00 hours, all producers and marketers in Andalusia will be able, once again, to market II categories aubergines for fresh consumption."

"Hortyfruta will continue to analyze the market evolution of products covered by the Inter-branch organization, and it will continue to assess what particular measures should be taken for each product."

Hortyfruta
Hortyfruta was established in 2007 to represent and defend the common interests of the Andalusian intensive fruit and vegetable sector; it represents the entire territory of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia's entire production and marketing of greenhouse fruit and vegetable products grown for fresh consumption. It includes the production and marketing of greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, aubergines, green beans, melons, and watermelons.

The companies associated with the organizations that make up Hortyfruta trade 3,256,094 tons of fruit and vegetables for an economic value of 3,191 million euros. In the current campaign, Hortyfruta groups 44,653 hectares of production, 19,364 farmers, and 112,835 direct jobs. It accounts for 82% of the production and marketing of Andalusia's intensive horticulture of products grown under cover.
