Tomato price drops drastically

Indian early table grapes harvest delayed after severe monsoon rain damage

The early table grape harvest that usually arrives in the Mumbai market was delayed due to incessant monsoon rains.

Very low volumes of grapes are available with the early Indian harvest affected and between 30-40% of crops damaged after the heavy rains. Traders on the market informed local consumers they will likely have to wait until December or January for the main harvest to see sufficient volumes of grapes  being traded.

Vegetable prices also increased sharply on the market last month due to the longer monsoon season that destroyed several crops, leading to some shortages.

Meanwhile, the price of 14 kg of tomatoes dropped drastically from Rs 500 ($6.11) to Rs230 ($2.18). This sudden drop caused major distress to Indian farmers as more supplies from many different regions reached local markets from the start of November.
