One of the oldest citrus companies in Castellon closes after 97 years of activity

After 97 years dedicated to the export of oranges and mandarins, the Peris Agost Hermanos company based in Almassora has presented a Statutory Lay-off proceeding that affects the whole of its workforce, composed of about 180 workers.

The company, one of the oldest exporters of oranges in the province, is laying off its workers because of the delicate economic situation it was in, which prevented it from paying its workforce's payroll.

The disappearance of Peris Agost has left most of its former employees facing a complicated employment situation. Fortunately, a percentage of the workforce has already managed (or will do in the coming weeks) to relocate to other companies in the sector. Some businesses and cooperatives in the region have great difficulty in finding professional fruit handlers, so the closure of this warehouse will allow them to hire highly qualified personnel.

Eleven million-euro-a-year sales
Peris Agost Hermanos was one of the largest companies in the agricultural sector and its annual sales volume used to range between 10 and 12 million euro.
