Banana exports on the island of Taiwan have declined this year, and Cai Zonghao, a candidate for the Kuomintang Tainan City Central and Western and North District Councillors, pointed out that the imbalance between production and sales has led to a collapse in the price of Taiwan's bananas. Therefore, he bought bananas as a campaign gift to give to people and called on the DPP authorities to face up to the problem of the sharp decline in Taiwan's banana exports and go all out to help Taiwan's banana farmers.
Cai Zonghao said that according to the statistics of Taiwan's Committee of Agriculture, Taiwan's banana exports in the first nine months of this year were 1,358 tons, a decrease of 1,336 tons compared with 2,694 tons in the same period last year, a decline of nearly half. Banana exports decreased by 22% to 57% each month for nine consecutive months compared with the same months last year.
Cai Zonghao pointed out that these bananas that cannot be exported have to be absorbed by the island market, resulting in a collapse in banana prices. The domestic sales price of green bananas has fallen from 56.27 yuan (New Taiwan dollars, same below) per kilogram in March this year to only 10.49 yuan per kilogram in September, calling on the DPP authorities to review the decline in exports and make every effort to help Taiwan bananas export.
